Kelly and Amy grew up in Northern Kentucky. Amy, being the eldest, started photographing at around age 7, every time she could get her hands on her parents' camera. When she finally got her own camera at age 10, she took so many photos of her friends and family that she had to start doing extra chores to pay for all of her photos to be developed. All through grade school, middle school, and high school she always had a camera with her, and when she started NKU in 1996, it only seemed natural to continue her love for photography and try to turn it into something she could possible make a living at. Kelly followed in her big sister's footsteps, getting into photography in high school, and spending extra time in her high school's photo lab, as well as accompanying Amy on many late night/early morning trips to the NKU photo lab. Kelly continued her education at NKU, excelling in her own photography classes. Both sisters are seldom without their cameras, and their friends and family have become the (sometimes unwilling) subjects of their photographs.
After a short stint as a Wedding Photographer's assistant, and an equally short stint as a portrait photographer in a department store, Amy realized that there was a calling for affordable photographers! She was amazed at the lack of creativity, and high prices of those she had worked for.
In 2006, a friend of Amy's and Kelly's sister was getting married and her wedding photographer had cancelled at the last minute. The friend called Amy and asked if Amy and Kelly could photograph her sister's wedding. She stated that her sister had a very limited budget. Amy and Kelly took on the job with little hesitance. The "customers" were so impressed with their work, that they ordered numerous extra prints, as well as an extra Wedding Album! They have given AKPhotography's business cards out and recommended them to friends every chance they get. They could not believe how much money they had saved as well!
In short, Amy and Kelly love their work, and it shows in every photo they take. Because they love to take photos, it doesn't feel like a "job" to them, but more a creative outlet in which both parties, the photographers and the photographed, come out ahead!
